Island Vintage Shaved Ice
My husband and I happened upon this jewel of a place right under our Oahu hotel, the Waikiki Beach Marriot Resort and Spa. Obviously, they advertise shaved ice, but they also had a secret island treasure, acai bowls. My husband and I love acai bowls. We first started having them in Maui on our honeymoon. The acai bowls in Hawaii are the most amazing anywhere. Nothing even compares. This place had amazing acai bowls. They had a 16 ounce and a 24 ounce. They combined layers of granola with layers of acai base, then amazing fruit toppings, including papaya which I have never had. Toppings included hapui cream, which is a coconut flavored ice cream they only make in Oahu. There was also coconut peanut butter, almond butter, cacao nibs, honey. The toppings were amazing, the fruit was the freshest and juiciest, and the alternating layers of granola and acai were delicious. The only drawback was that the bowls were expensive. Around $14.00 for the 16 ounce and $17 - $18 for the 24 ounce. Even for Oahu, this is a little expensive. However, the bowls were very large and they are stuffed full. Overall, a good value and an amazing experience. Not to mention it’s right across from the beach. You cannot beat eating an acai bowl right across from the beach. That’s the stuff of dreams.
